Space and Time

Understanding what’s possible when presented with a blank canvas and then applying our architectural vision invariably results in the interiors where we derive greatest satisfaction. This spacious family kitchen, dining area, pantry and utility room is a case in point. The layout is informed by the structural assets of the home and with a few deft touches, we designed a cooking, meeting and relaxing room combination for a family that gathers to share home cooking and each other’s company. The spacious handmade, in-frame island curves elegantly around a structural pillar. Light spills in from the garden terrace through full-height bi-fold doors, across a casual dining area. A pantry hides behind a secret door; a dedicated breakfast zone is tucked inside curved, hand-crafted cupboards and there’s an ergonomically precise food preparation, cooking and serving area. It’s a big space but it’s the subtle details that really make it. A pocket door system lends proportion and balance on one side, while on another, a run of furniture is punctuated with the clever use of contrasting materials and the placement of appliances.
